Memory Carousel

The Memory Carousel is one of Recollect’s most distinctive and personal features, transforming memory recollection into an interactive experience. When entered, the Carousel presents patients with a softly blurred screen that gradually reveals itself as they press on it. This interactive element encourages patients to engage with their memories rather than simply view them. Memory titles, descriptions, dates, locations, and Audio Immersions appear throughout the scene, offering the sensory “puzzle pieces” needed to help reconstruct moments in the mind. Inspired by my own experiences caring for my grandpa, this approach reflects Recollect’s core belief: that memory can be both preserved and reignited through physical interaction- creating the connection between patients and their memories that supports recollection and recognition skills.

The Memory Carousel also offers accessibility features for patients across varying cognitive stages, including text-to-speech playback and an intuitive, touch-friendly interface. Each experience is designed with familiar layouts and calming transitions that make navigation effortless. Patients can also view the featured relatives tied to each memory, whose icons appear at the bottom of the screen. When tapped, their information and photo gently display, reinforcing recognition through association.

Complementing the Carousel is Relative Recollection, a dedicated mode that focuses on those featured loved ones and their featured photos. Patients can explore familiar faces in a simplified view designed to strengthen recognition and visual connection.
